In a grievous escalation of violence, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allied militias linked to the terrorist Islamic Movement launched a brutal and unprovoked assault on a shelter housing displaced families in the area of al-Kuma, North Darfur, early Friday. This horrific act of violence claimed the lives of more than 60 civilians, including innocent children, women, and the elderly, marking one of the darkest days for those who have already suffered immeasurably.

The attack targeted the al-Farouq Basic School — a vital shelter for over 35 displaced families — ruthlessly demolishing the facility. The barrage of over seven rockets and explosive bombs turned what was once a refuge into a nightmarish scene of destruction, leaving hundreds wounded and lives shattered. In addition to the shelter, the assault destroyed the community’s water sources and residential homes, stripping civilians of both safety and essential resources.

These deliberate attacks on unarmed civilians constitute heinous war crimes, amounting to genocide and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law. We call on the international community, human rights organizations, and defenders of humanitarian justice worldwide to respond decisively, to confront these atrocities, and to unequivocally condemn these barbaric actions.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stands in unwavering solidarity with the families affected by this tragedy and calls upon all Sudanese — across the entire social and political spectrum — to unite in support of the innocent victims of this devastating assault.

We reaffirm our commitment to end the oppressive grip of the former regime, to free Sudan’s decision-making from the undue influence exercised through the co-opted SAF leadership in Port Sudan, and to rebuild our nation on a foundation of justice that addresses the rights and grievances of all Sudanese people.
